Overview
The Department of International Relations aims to train students with the ability to analyse events, issues and phenomena, looking at a range of scenarios, from economic, political and social developments to the historical processes of diplomatic relations. Any analysis is undertaken according to the basic principles of political science, with the ability of comprehension and evaluation, based on an interdisciplinary approach. International Relations in today’s world, include the relations and developments arising between countries, as well as between different societies, nongovernmental organizations, individuals and supra-national organizations (e.g.international and regional organizations, multi-national companies, and extra-national organizations). Students of the Department of International Relations analyse the multilayered network of relationships on a global scale, and develop the necessary related skills and knowledge of domestic and foreign policy. In addition, they learn about
the conceptual framework and theoretical approaches to international relations.
Programme structure
The programme, offered to students studying at the Department of International Relations, is based on an interdisciplinary framework, and courses draw from political science, sociology, law, economics, and philosophy. The up-to-date courses and fields of study balance the theoretical and practical applications. Through the various courses offered, students are given every opportunity to gain expertise in the fields related to their specific interests.
Career opportunities
Job opportunities for the graduates of the Department of International Relations may be found in a range of fields, based on the students’ own personal preferences, interests and ambition. The majority of graduates find employment in public and private businesses and enterprises that have connections abroad. In the public sector, graduates find work as government officials in various departments, particularly in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As Turkey continues on the accession path to Europe, increasing numbers of graduates are being employed to work on EU linked projects, both in the public and private sectors. Graduates may also work for international and regional organizations, research institutions, the private sector, non-governmental organizations and other public agencies. Employment opportunities are also available in commerce to develop international ties and business links in marketing, sales, international consultancy, international banks, media and communication facilities.
